Mentoring is one of the most powerful things a person can do — for a young person and for themselves. Here is why it matters.
Every experience you have had — the wins, the struggles, the lessons — is exactly what a young person needs to hear. Your story has power. Share it.
Research shows that youth with a consistent mentor are 55% more likely to enroll in college, 78% more likely to volunteer, and significantly less likely to engage in risky behavior.
You won't be doing this alone. Our mentor community is active, trained, and supported. You'll have resources, guidance, and fellow mentors walking alongside you.
Mentoring sharpens your leadership, communication, and empathy. Many of our mentors say the relationship has grown them just as much as the youth they serve.
"Meet them where they are, then teach them where they can go."
— A Million Wishes Foundation
We are not looking for perfect people — we are looking for real ones. Mentors come from all walks of life, all professions, and all backgrounds. What they share is a genuine desire to invest in a young person and the commitment to show up consistently.
If you are 18 or older, can pass a background check, and are willing to give a few hours a month with consistency and care — you have what it takes.
We set our mentors up for success. Here is what being a mentor with A Million Wishes Foundation looks like.
A minimum of 2–4 hours per month for at least 6 months. Consistency matters more than quantity.
All mentors complete a background check before being matched. We make this process simple.
All mentors attend a one-time orientation and receive ongoing training and support from our team.
Stay in contact with your mentee and check in with our team monthly to share updates and get support.
Fill out the mentor application below. Tell us about your background, strengths, and why you want to mentor.
Our team will reach out to schedule a brief interview and orientation session to get you prepared.
Complete a background check — a required step for all mentors working with youth in our programs.
You'll be matched with a youth based on your background, interests, and availability. Then the real work begins.
Ready to make a lasting difference? Fill out the form below and our team will be in touch within 3–5 business days.
Mentoring is just one way to support our mission.
